In September, I traveled to New York to participate in the Visionary Art Intensive taught by Alex Grey and Allyson Grey. Their art and talents are amazing! The week-long workshop was held at Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. I have always heard great things about Omega, so it was a thrill to be able to go. It was super inspiring and nourishing to be around kindred souls and talented artists, eating vegetarian food, walking in nature, doing yoga and art.

Both Alex and Allyson have such big hearts and I really got to see them as people and not just the icons of visionary art. Alex is brilliant, very funny and cracks jokes and makes funny sounds. And Allyson is wise, loving and focused. They both sat with me individually to discuss my work, providing valuable advice and support. I was happy to see that they loved my art and envisioned it in paintings and children’s books and beyond.

While I was there, I noticed something new emerging in my art. It was fun to play and see what was expressed.

Here’s a glimpse of some figure drawings done with prismacolor pencil on black paper.

If you get a chance to go to the Visionary Art Intensive it will be a very powerful experience. It was for me! In fact I’d love to go back and take it again.
